Neka Doe-White runs her business out of Atlanta, Georgia. A huge advocate for her clients, she finds the best policies for their needs, helping them improve their quality of life. Last AEP, Neka was Spark’s top producer — an almost 14% production increase from the year before, based on Sunfire data.

We sat down with Neka for an interview to learn more about her success and hear the advice she’d offer to other agents looking to hit big numbers.

Know your why

Before Neka became an agent, she was working in a pharmacy and struggling with her health. It was an incredibly dark time in her life, but she continually found inspiration from her patients. “They would always uplift me and inspire me, despite what I was going through.” Her patients reminded her that she could do it — that she had the power to change her life.

Years later, when Neka became an agent, she named her business The Possibilities Group — an acknowledgment to the people who never stopped telling her it was possible to regain her health.

For Neka, her work isn’t just about where she’s going, but where her community is going.

She asks: How can I affect the lives of the people that I’m serving? How can I help them? How can I change them? Her purpose is to uplift the people around her, which is what keeps her energized and motivated.

Lean on your network to stay ahead of the learning curve

“Nobody has ever won by themselves,” Neka told us. She said that one of the best ways to achieve your goals is to have people who are cheering you on and providing the resources you need to succeed. Spark and Wealth Alliance Group “provided me with guidance. They provided me with tools that helped me stay on track and accountable. And together, we were able to celebrate all along the way.”

Surrounding yourself with people who will continue to challenge and educate you is key to your success as an agent. By continually growing her industry knowledge, she stays accountable to her clients: “It helps me be relatable. It helps me be real and somebody that people can trust.”

Neka explained how a lot of her beneficiaries are just looking for someone to take the time to walk them through their options. They’re looking for an expert to help them find the best policy for their needs. “It’s my job to break it down, keep it simple. Medicare is overly complicated for them.”

The announcements and resources in the Spark platform helped Neka understand what was changing, when she needed to talk to her clients, and how she could explain the changes to them. Take the Inflation Reduction Act — “It was important for me to know how to approach it, to let them know: what does that mean? What does it look like for them?” Neka said Spark made it so easy to help her clients and ensure they knew the upcoming changes. “Spark made me look like a superhero.”

Be who your clients need you to be

One of Neka’s biggest strengths is her ability to show up and be the person her clients need her to be. In the beginning, clients might not be looking for an insurance agent — instead, they need a cheerleader, an educator, a friend. “I show up and be what they need at that time.”

Last year, Neka had a client who had recently been put on dialysis. He wasn’t getting the medication he needed, he was struggling with his morale, and he was starting to disengage. Neka found a way to lower the cost of her client’s medication and got him a lower out-of-pocket, but she also lifted him up and urged him to hold onto hope — she needed him to fight. When her client eventually found out he’d be getting a transplant, Neka was his first call. He thanked her for believing in him and pushing forward when he was ready to give up.

“I am a customer service girl. I show up. I’m gonna come see you. I’m gonna sit down with you, and we’ll break bread together.” Underneath all of the complexities and challenges of this industry, an agent’s business is really about meeting people where they are and connecting with them on a human level.
